Abortion has become a secular sacrament
for the secular left.
The response by so called "feminists" and
Democratic female politicians to the "Hobby Lobby" decision would have you
believe that Sharia law has just been instituted in the United States. The
irony in this is that normally these same actors are silent about the real evils
of Sharia inflicted on women in Islamic countries. They explain this by not
wanting to be" Islamophobic" and so it goes in the "progressive asylum" that
America has become.
We have heard from Hillary and NOW
and Sandra Fluke and Elizabeth Warren and Debbie Wasserman- Schultz and of
course Nancy Pelosi, who just the day before told us that border states and
Mexico are just one big community with a river running through it. "San Fran
Nan" also seems unfazed by a Cardinal's call to deny her communion. I supposed
she sees it as just another way to lose weight.
Hillary's denouncement is also ironic
since the decision was based on the regulatory requirement to provide
birth control being a violation of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which
was signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1993. Put more succinctly this was not
an "ObamaCare" statutory requirement ...it was an Obama
personal requirement.
The always foaming at the mouth Dems see
the Burwell v Hobby Lobby decision handed down on June 30th as a new opportunity
to whip up the base in order to avoid disaster at the polls in November. The
very idea that people who own the majority share of for profit companies might
have genuinely held religious beliefs seems quite beyond their
ken.
In reality however many do understand
it...they just hate it. Religion to them is in the words of Karl Marx "the
opium of the masses". In response to that I would quote Groucho Marx who said
"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've
got it made". Faking honesty and fair dealing has become the leitmotif of all
progressives and particularly progressive women who try to frame the issue as a
mostly Catholic attack on "Women's Health Rights". I mean "get your Rosaries
off my ovaries" has such intellectual heft to it. It's sheer poetry if you are
a Fascist or a lunatic or both.
The basic question posed in "Hobby
Lobby" is ignored by those shrieking about a conservative war on women and in
fact ignored by SCOTUS in their decision. That question is
why would any person believe that I or any
other citizen should subsidize another persons sex life? Where does this new
right come from?
The left loves to make things that are
the personal responsibility of individuals into "rights" that become the
responsibility of everyone. They do this to enlarge the powers of the state and
diminish the rights of each person. They create faux victims who henceforth
demand and are entitled to social justice which today is the only growth
industry in the United States.
The fact is that the decision left intact
16 out of 20 birth control products which would be covered by Hobby Lobby. The
4 that were exempted were abortifacient products which violated the religious
rights of the owners.
Justice Ginsburg was so outraged by the 5
to 4 decision that she read her dissent from the bench and warned “The court, I
fear, has ventured into a minefield.” The fear is that this
decision would proliferate and would lead to the denial of vaccinations, blood
transfusions and I suppose if you take it to the absurd the right to commit
honor killings because of religious beliefs. I have no doubt in the Bedlam
created deliberately by progressives that this indeed will be the case since
their agenda is to strip reason and judgement from our public and private
affairs in order to bring down American democracy and traditional culture.
Notwithstanding all of the above, the decision was confined to
the regulatory mandate in question in this case.
The argument today is not about birth
control. It is about abortion, including efforts to deny lifesaving treatment
to babies who survive botched abortions.
The majority of Americans oppose
unlimited abortions on moral grounds. According to one poll, 58% of all
Americans believe that all abortions should be banned. According to
Rasmussen, a plurality of 49% believe that private companies should be exempted
from providing coverage for abortion.
This is a debate which has monumental and
fundamental human and civil rights implications. To turn it into sleazy
political opportunism is to turn away from one of the great moral struggles in
history
It is frightening to understand
that we are but one Justice away from the legalization of a new proto-Fascist
America where zealots like Sandra Fluke calls the shots and abortion becomes a
secular sacrament for all of us. Is this the dark world framed
by death that we want for our future? I say never..I say l'chaim...I say here's
to life and here's to love.
