Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the
assassination of the 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald
Kennedy. Any one of a certain age remembers where they were and what they were
doing when they learned the news of the President's death. It was one of those
events like December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001 that in their aftermath we
come to understand that we have left one era and entered
another.
One of the most significant changes that
the assassination engendered was the death of the Democratic Party as a national
moderate party with regard to National Defense, Tax Cuts, the size and
function of government, "American Exceptionalism", historic American values and
a consensus on domestic policy with the exception of race. After 11/22/63 the
progressive segment of the liberal wing of the party became dominant in an
aggressive fashion to the point that today we have neo Marxists and proto
Fascists in leadership positions both nationally and
locally.
John F. Kennedy was by almost every
current definition a conservative who could not be elected as a Democrat today.
He was a "cold warrior" who believed in a strong defense (witness "Ich bin ein
Berliner" and the Cuban Missile Crisis) . He did not believe in a "nanny" state
("Ask not what your country can does for you...ask what you can do for your
country"). He began the process of divorcing the Democrats from the southern
segregationists which had a political hammerlock on the life of the national
party. Historic revision by progressives later redefined these racists as
conservatives thereby continuing the process of distorting who Kennedy and his
party really were. He kick started the American space program into a race to
the moon while stating "We
choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the
other things, not because they are easy, but because they are
hard...".
Kennedy's "New Frontier" was a pragmatic
vision of an America ascendant where the problems of the nation were to be
solved and not merely managed. JFK included tax cuts as a critical part of his
policy to make the US as productive and economically strong as possible and
history proved him right and his Democratic critics
wrong.
After his death, he was repackaged as a
modern liberal in part by his family and friends and in part by because Lyn don
Banes Johnson needed a martyred "liberal" icon to pass his "Great Society"
legislation and move the progressive agenda pass the "New Frontier" to a place
in history where it would be seen as a extension of the "New Deal", LBJ was no
JFK but a latter day FDR "wannabe" who needed a different predecessor in order
to further his own place in history.
But he misjudged reality as so many
politicians are wont to do and embroiled the nation in its first politically
correct war in Viet Nan which as such, was destined to end badly. This war
combined with the Civil Rights movement and the birth of the counter culture
propelled the Democratic Party into its current progressive social
justice trajectory.
The Democratic Party which is the world's
oldest political party, has been for generations, a "Pottering Village". The so
called "party of the common man" now sees the common man as a subject and not a
constituent. The party has in addition been on the wrong side of history more
often than not. For example Democrats have been in the past and the
present, the party of slavery, secession, segregation, socialism and
sedition.
Corruption, incompetence and fraud have
also come to mark the party both nationally and
locally.
Corruption follows Democrats like
coke dealers follow Rob Ford and
"paparazzi" follow Alec Baldwin. The situation is so bad in
NYS that the Democratic Governor has appointed a "More land Commission" to in
effect, investigate the legislature which is largely comprised of members of his
own party. And of course...there is always Rod Large, John Edwards, Marion
Barry, etc. etc..
After corruption comes incompetence bred by
a slavish devotion to an ideology derived out of magical thinking on just about
everything. ObamaCare is and will be forever the lowest point in the history of
the American Presidency when it comes to incompetence and
fraud.
ObamaCare also illustrates the arrogance of
modern Democrats and the steps they will take to protect their party even at the
expense of the American people. It was not just the President who promised
Americans they could keep their insurance and their Doctors but the Democratic
legislators who clearly didn't know what they voted for or never read the bill
they passed and who then lied to the American public for three years until they
and the President and the lies they both perpetrated were exposed.
The modern Democratic Party also is
notable for its disdain for any religion except Islam. Much of this
purportedly comes out of their fanaticism for Abortion on demand and their
support for same sex marriage. In essence they despise the America that John F.
Kennedy loved and died in the service of.
Today's Democrats have as their idol not
Barrack Baa but the fictional Frank Underwood of "House of Cards". Underwood
is the Democratic House whip with a "Lady Macbeth" like wife who will do
anything to get what he wants. He is totally amoral and thus an avatar to many
modern Democrats. In the first episode he turns to the camera with a feral grin
and introduces his wife to the viewers by saying "I love her like a shark loves
blood". Get the picture?
The Democratic Party of today is not your fathers Democratic
Party, nor is it the party of JFK. That party died on November 22,
1963.
